Going on vacation is exciting, and it's great to be prepared before you go. Here are some helpful tips and information to make sure your trip goes smoothly.

Getting Here

If you're planning on flying into the Bahamas, we recommend flying into Marsh Harbour Airport (MHH). Keep in mind that during low season (July - September) all the airlines fly, but not every day of the week. It's best if you avoid connecting through Nassau Airport (NAS).

Currency

• Bahamian (BSD) & USD are equivalent, so no need to exchange money, you can use US dollars anywhere you go.

• Credit cards are accepted but some places do add a fee for using a credit card, you should bring some cash for tips etc...

General Information

  • On Bahamian Holidays, most grocery stores are either closed or have reduced hours.

  • Remember to drive on the LEFT side of the road!

Car Rentals

​There is no Uber or Lyft on the island, taxis can be expensive and most travelers opt to rent a car. Rental cars should be booked in advance. 

​

Mitchell and Valencia Hepburn's company, Auto Express, offers a variety of dependable vehicles in their fleet from vans to compacts. They will make arrangements to leave the vehicle at the airport for your arrival. They have Zelle, or if you want to pay cash they will stop by the house for payment and additional documentation. Contact them via WhatsApp at (242) 812-0624 or (242) 436-7148 to reserve your vehicle.

Another good car rental company is Rental Wheels, their number is (242) 367-4643.

Communication

  • Check with your cell phone carrier to see if they have an International plan so you can use your data or send texts.

  • Wifi calling

  • Most of the locals use WhatsApp for communications, some will ONLY use WhatsApp. Be sure to download the app from your device's App Store before you go. You can call anywhere in the world free of charge, but the person you're calling must have WhatsApp too! Visit the WhatsApp website for more information

Abaco Sun - Online Information & Planner

Abaco Sun is a great online resource for all things Abaco. They provide helpful information and links to local recources and information (such as weather & ferry schedules). They also have an online form for both residents and visitors. The site is well maintained and updated frequently, so it's a valuable resource for you to plan your vacation!

A helpful guide for tourists that includes local restaurant guides, points of interest, and more! It's a great resource to help you plan your vacation or find things to do while you're here. General Information

  • Please remember to bring all of your prescribed medications with you!​
